If you know Somos Amigos, you know Ed Keath’s portraits. Ed’s stunning photos allow us to glimpse into the souls of our patients through their eyes. Each photo tells a story, each one reveals the joys and hardships of its subject.
Join Somos Amigos as we celebrate our upcoming 20th anniversary through Ed’s portraits. The exhibit and reception at Howard Community College are also a part of our eighteen-month campaign leading up to the inauguration of our fourth trip each calendar year. From our humble beginnings in 1997, Somos Amigos has grown to become a model for the delivery of quality medical and dental care in a remote hillside community in the Dominican Republic. Hundreds of volunteers like Ed and his wife Mary have cared for thousands of patients, some of whom are alive today primarily because of the intervention of our volunteers.
Somos Amigos started with just one trip per year. After several years of growing our volunteer base and improving our facilities, we added a second trip. Within a few more years, in response to the mounting need, we added a third. With the need for basic healthcare even more dire, we know now it’s time to grow again.
But that’s not all. In addition to increasing the frequency of our trips, Somos Amigos will staff our clinic with a local provider on a regular basis between our visits. This will allow us to monitor patients between our trips and also to identify patients who have special needs before our groups arrive and get them the care they deserve.
Somos Amigos is a small, grass-roots organization. We are proud of what we have accomplished with a lean budget through the years but it is time to be bold. The 4th trip is more than a need—it’s a necessity. There is no charge to attend the exhibition or reception, but your voluntary donation will be appreciated. Prints of Ed’s photos (framed and unframed) will also be available for sale. Please join us for conversation and refreshments, and to admire Ed’s work. Thank you for your support.
